People can surprise you, you get used to thinking of them one way; stuck in their roles, they are what they are, and then they do something that shows you that there’s all this depth and dimension that you never knew existed.
Mitchell, Modern Family Season 2 Episode 18
Sometimes we need to leave, in order to arrive.
Sometimes we must go up, to know we belong on the ground.
Sometimes we bow, to know why we should stand.
Sometimes you have to be apart to know you belong together.
Sometimes we need to see something small, to know what is great.
Sometimes to know what is right, we need to see what is wrong.
Because sometimes, you have to see, to believe.
National Geographic
Genuine hope lies in knowing that there is always more time. It refuses to acknowledge the perceived fatum, and claims that in the end, it is not the end.

What six months of long distance has done to us…

There are dreamers and there are realists in this world. You’d think the dreamers would find the dreamers and the realists would find the realists, but more often than not, the opposite is true. You see the dreamers need the realists from keeping them from soaring too close to the sun… And the realists? Well without the dreamers, they might never get off the ground.

Carlyn took a photo of me that reminded me of my old baby photo! So I decided to put it side by side. Thoughts?

Went here during one weekend in January. The plan? Leave Friday 9pm, get to Banaue Saturday 6am. Arrive back in Manila Monday morning 6am for class at 8:30am. And on a quick tight schedule we got to Banaue!

The bus ride wasn’t all so bad. I was seated beside three Indian guys and Nelie. And that night, they ate in my house before we went to the bus station. I told them that the breaded meat on the plate was breaded chicken breast, and while they were busy eating I started to pack. When I got back and took a bite of this breaded chicken breast, I began to discover that they ate pork. THESE INDIANS NEVER EAT PORK, especially Athi who only ate chicken. I couldn’t help but feel bad and guilty but then I couldn’t really say anything cause I was too embarrassed AND they seemed to be enjoying the food (cause they kept getting more and more of the breaded chicken breast.

FAST FORWARD to the bus rides. Indian guys taught me lots of bad Indian words. YAY TO HINDI VOCABULARY! Here’s a few that I still remember.

1. Maderchod - motherfucker
2. Bhentchod - sisterfucker
3. Gandmeidanda (?) - stick up your ass
4. Chutya - idiot/fuck off. I forgot.
5. Sunidara - come here
6. Bhentchod, sunidara - come here, sisterfucker
7. Beivokuf (?) - stupid

And I confessed to them about the breaded chicken breast mishap cause during dinner I kept laughing with Nelie and of course, they were wondering. HUHUHU I felt guilty BUT thankfully they weren’t mad and they even found it funny. I guess. Hahaha.

SO WE GOT TO BANAUE AND YAY THE RICE TERRACES!

We hiked around 2 hours to get to our lodge in Batad… that was the start of hiking hell! Don’t get me wrong it was really pretty, but I have clumsyfeet and I fell a couple of times.

Then after arriving, we had lunch and started hiking at around 1! We went for around 2 hours going down really steep stairs to finally reach… the waterfalls! Then we hiked back, got there around 5pm, and had a reaaaally long dinner (cause the kitchen kinda took long) then went for some cultural exposure!

Next day, we just went back, had lunch and looked at some viewpoints in Banaue, including probably the most famous one at the back of the P1000 bill! We were also playing the game Mafia in the jeep. We were incredibly noisy, shouting cause Mafia is an incredibly political game where people start fighting and guessing and woop. But it was fun!

THEN FINALLY THE BUS RIDE HOME AT 7pm!!!! Unfortunately, our bus broke down… so we kinda went weird for an hour jumping around on the streets. Then when we got back to Manila…. I went to school. So excited to go see more places!
